Bridges in pieces

The game hands you bridge pieces of random shape, from one to four cells long. You turn them and attach them to the tip of one of your bridges or to a landing on the edge of an island, never to the side. The wind springs are on the lesser islands, and a Collector only produces if your bridges link it to the temple.

A stretch cut off from the temple does not fall at once. It gives way slowly and collapses after about twenty seconds. Link it again before then and it stays up.

Four elements

A Collector on a spring gives you wind and opens the spring’s element. Each element has a Stele that lights a circle of light, and its buildings can only go inside it. Then there is a tower that strikes, a building that defends and a special that charges over time.

    Gust Tower, Cloud Wall, Vortex

  • Lightning

    Lightning Pylon, Lightning Rod, Thunderstorm

  • Rain

    Hail Mortar, Mist, Deluge

  • Sun

    Burning Mirror, Light Shield, Eclipse

The Veiled and the Keeper

The Veiled leave the temple, take the wind at the Collector and carry it back on foot along the bridges. If a shot hits them, the wind they carry drops and goes to whoever fired.

When the enemy temple reaches zero, its Keeper falls to the ground. Your Carrier goes to get it and carries it to your altar, where the rite begins: five signs, then victory. The enemy breaks the rite if they knock down your altar.

The weather changes the rules

The sky changes during the match, and the game warns you a few seconds before. Each kind of weather helps one element and holds back another.

In a Gust the Mortars miss half their shots, and bridges that end in a tip break. In a Storm, lightning strikes bridges and buildings at random, and the Lightning Rods catch it.

The Route of the Winds

Twelve worlds to win one after another, from the First Flight level to Storm. Each world you win opens the next one.

Before you set off you can pick some Omens, like less wind at the start or a faster enemy. Each one is worth 1 to 3 marks, and marks unlock banner colors, seals and temple ornaments. They change how your side looks, never the game.

One on one, online

You create a match and send the other player the five-letter code or the link. They join with no sign-up. In the room you can chat, and whoever created it can change the sky before you start.

If you close the app you are still the same player: you get back into the room with the code, and you can challenge anyone you have already met again. If they turned on notifications, they get an alert.

And also

  • Five levels against the computer. After two wins in a row, the game offers you the next one up.
  • The World of the Day is the same for everyone and changes every day. Every world has a code you can send with a link.
  • Replays to save at the end of a match, watch again at speed 1, 2 or 4 and send with a link.
  • No connection needed: after your first visit, a match against the computer works offline too.

What’s new

Will you send us your matches?

  • After the first match you finish, the game asks whether you want to send us your matches: the moves, the world, the version and the type of device, with no name or account. They show us where the game is hard or boring and help us find bugs.
  • You answer “Yes, send them” or “No, thanks”, and after a no we don't ask again. You can change your mind in Settings, under Profile: “Send my matches”. Matches are kept for 12 months, in Belgium.
  • Online matches are never sent. The game no longer saves your last matches online without asking, as it did since v24.
3 more changes
  • The game's name is written in full, “Aeolia - Islands in the Wind”: in the menu, the home page, the wiki and the installed app.
  • Messages use game words, with no technical terms.
  • Scrollbars match the game: thin and brass-coloured.

A tidier bottom, drawn bridges, a mouse that chooses

  • On a phone the bridge bar goes down to the edge, beside the comments button: the empty strip under the bar is gone and you see more of the map.
  • The bridge pieces in the bar are drawn as real stretches of bridge, with wooden planks, ropes along the sides and posts at the corners, instead of brown squares.
  • All the icons of the bar, the drawer and the round buttons are painted in the same style as the bridge pieces: a dark outline, colour lit from above, counters on small brass plates. Towers are in warm stone, with their element's colour as a glow. Rotate has two arrows.
6 more changes
  • Every command of the bar says its name: at once with the mouse over it, or by holding a finger on the phone. Cards with a Bestiary page have a small brass «i» that opens it: what it is, what it costs, what it is strong against and what beats it.
  • On the computer, moving the mouse over the map shows only the outline of the piece or the building. The first click chooses the spot and the choice stays there even if you move the mouse; a second click on the piece places it. Esc drops the choice.
  • Rotate leaves the bar and sits on the right in a single column, with Miracles above it and the compass on top.
  • Cirro's “Good job” and “No” appear beside Rotate, apart from each other, and no longer cover the bar. On narrow phones “Undo” shows only its arrow.
  • The cards in the bar no longer have a frame each: the chosen card stands out by its light and the line under it.
  • The performance meter, when it is on, is a thin line under the top bar.
